The war against Ukraine has resulted in immense destruction across all sectors and forcibly displaced over 15 million people, putting the right to education of millions at risk. Attacks on education facilities, including over 3,000 education institutions are currently endangering the lives and futures of the country’s 5.7 million school-aged children. Evidence has shown that armed conflict has dreadful and often long-lasting negative impacts on the education community, hampering education’s lifesaving and life-sustaining function.  Ukrainian teachers are some of the most vulnerable actors in education today. Primary and secondary school teachers, including those internally displaced, lack resources, training, and support to deliver instruction and maintain learning in this conflict situation. A trauma informed pedagogy can address some of the Ukrainian teachers’ needs when dealing with children in their classroom often traumatized by the conflict. The British Council has designed a programme to specifically address these and other related needs of teachers working in conflict affected environments. Come along and find out more!
