An inspiring educational project running in Gaza, the Glimmer of Hope Academy, has put out a call for support, particularly from ELT/EAP communities internationally, for volunteer teachers and for contributions to their fundraising drive. The RefugEAP Network is supporting this call, as we have been working closely with GoH via the Pal-EAP Scheme, and have referred many students to their valuable provision.

Glimmer of Hope was founded and is run by the Dr Omar Khamis (pictured below), who had the chance to evacuate from Gaza with his children in early 2024 before the Rafah crossing was destroyed, but decided instead to remain there to set up this free educational initiative, to give hope and opportunity to young people across the Strip.

To date Glimmer of Hope has supported over 1,000 Palestinian students in/from Gaza through online and face-to-face classes. In order to continue and expand this work, they have now put out a call for:

  • volunteer TOEFL teachers for online classes (to apply, contact Dr Omar via WhatsApp at +970 599 500 537)
  • contributions to their fundraising campaign to raise money to establish a physical tent-based academy in the Mawasi area of Gaza (via the Glimmer of Hope Academy’s Go Fund Me page)
