In this seminar, Glenn Levine (University of California, Levine) will present a new collection of papers focused on the language learning of adult migrants in Europe. The nine papers in the volume draw on recent empirical data to highlight the tension between language and integration, and the often-disparate aims between national systems of adult migrant language education, language teachers in classrooms, and learners themselves. Glenn will be joined by the authors of two of the chapters: Anke Grotlüschen (University of Hamburg) and Nafisah Graham-Brown (ELATT / NATECLA) who will discuss their contributions, and the place of migrant language education research within applied linguistics.
