This webinar will look at some of the common difficulties that ESOL learners can encounter when studying on maths programmes. This session will look at how the content of a maths course, from the initial assessment through to the final exam, may contain obstacles to an ESOL learner, even those who appear to have strong basic numeracy skills. In particular, the session will look at:

•         common language difficulties faced by ESOL learners.
•         particular barriers with maths vocabulary and concepts.
•         practical tips for supporting learners with learning vocabulary.
•         strategies to support ESOL learners with your instructions and resources.

The webinar is a taster for a longer course that explores this concept in more detail.
