Summer greetings from the team at MESH
Welcome to our summer newsletter. We hope that the year is coming to a positive conclusion for colleagues across the region. We also wish everyone a positive Refugee Week, full of creative and engaging experiences. In line with the theme of Refugee Week 2024, Our Home, MESH welcomes all refugees and asylum seekers to Yorkshire & Humber. We hope you will find our resources useful in helping you to settle here – it is a home for all of us, and it is made a home by all of us. To recognise Refugee Week, Angela has put together a short webquest for use in the classroom or independently.
Learning English in Yorkshire and the Humber
LEYH continues to operate as a resource for locating classes in the locality of the region. We are delighted to say that in the first quarter of 2024 the site recorded our highest user rate ever, at an average of 3800 per month. Don’t forget to let us know if you have any comments on the way LEYH is working for you. We would love to hear from you.
Our new Going to University feature is now fully embedded as an Information Resource for Learners (IRL). This is the first of a series of resources designed to be accessed directly by learners or those advising learners – it provides a range of information on going to university, including links to local universities with special access programmes for ESOL learners. Look, for example, at the below contribution to our resource provided by University of Sheffield. Again, please do provide feedback for us on this resource and how it is working for you – you will find a feedback form on the resource page.
In our Going to University Information feature, University of Sheffield staff tell us how to access ESOL and other support at the University.
Please give us feedback on features of our website! You will find forms like these on many of our pages, or mail us at info@yhmesh.org.uk
LE+ features a new learning resource for use in the classroom on cooking and food, launched in May 2023. In addition to this, watch this space for an exciting range of new resources that will be coming soon from our Exploring and Belonging project in Hull.
Visit the staffroom for information on jobs, and for information on MESH activities. Read Angela’s Out & About focusing on the work that she and Safina have been doing in classrooms in Leeds and Rotherham, working with learners to reflect on their learning journeys and explore progression pathways.
We hope you have also noticed the recent refurbishment of our Training pages. We have done some work on these pages to make them more accessible. Visit the training pages to find out about upcoming training opportunities across the region and beyond.
