Sunflower ESOL - Leeds

This Learning Resource is focused on the ways you can learn English by doing things outside of a classroom. The resource includes a film we made at Sunflower ESOL, which is an ESOL and gardening group at Catch, Leeds. The video includes an interview with the group leader Clare, where she talks about gardening and learning English, as well as an interview with Cecilia, one of the learners who attends the group. The Resource also includes slides, teacher notes and worksheets exploring different ways to learn English, with a focus on gardening.

'Sunflower ESOL' Video

You can view our video about Sunflower ESOL here.  The video duration is 8.06 minutes. It includes interviews with the group leader Clare, and with a learner called Cecilia.  They talk about the benefits of learning English in a different way, outside of the classroom, and how growing food and gardening are good for the health. This video can be shown in class as a starting point for discussion of different ways of learning, and also for a focus on gardening and healthy eathing. The video is also embedded in the slides on this theme.

Download or view the teacher notes on ESOL outside the classroom, including suggestions for activities and approaches for use with learners at different levels, from pre-Entry to Entry 3 +.  You can build these suggestions into your lesson plans on food support.
