ESOL Lunchtime Showcase sessions 2025-26
Full recordings of our online ESOL Lunchtime Showcase sessions during the 2025-26 academic year. The ESOL Lunchtime Showcase is an online CPD series organised jointly by MESH and Migration Yorkshire. The sessions showcase good practice in our region related to a range of topics of interest to ESOL practitioners and those who support refugees, asylum seekers and other migrant groups. In 2025-26 our sessions covered topics from digital learning to delivering ESOL in a context of public antagonism towards migration to pre-Entry ESOL. See details of each session below.
16th September 2025: Digital Learning
This session was a follow on from our ESOL & Digital Learning Showcase on June 4th 2025. In this session, we looked again at issues around the delivery of ESOL in the context of and through digital learning. The session included a presentation from Sophie Alderheart of Kirklees College.
1st December 2025: Delivering ESOL in a hostile environment 1
Developing strategies and staying safe in the context of anti-migrant activism in the UK. This event focuses on the current challenges that many in the ESOL world are living with and working through related to public discourse and far right activism about migration and asylum.

11th May 2026: Pre-Entry ESOL
Our May Lunchtime Showcase focuses on Pre-Entry ESOL. We share ideas, resources and strategies about Pre-Entry amongst colleagues across the region. Hear from experienced colleagues with a variety of ideas for delivering Pre-Entry ESOL – frequently cited as the most demanding level to teach.
16th June 2026: Exploring the new Learning English sites
In late 2025 the MESH team initiated a process of redevelopment of our core websites, Learning English in Yorkshire & Humber (LEYH) and Learning English Plus (LE+). In this ESOL Lunchtime Showcase we offer a more comprehensive look at the revised site before we launch it in the summer months. The MESH team share key pages and provide examples of user journeys through the sites.
