Meet our ESOL Development Workers

John Zavos
John leads MESH and provides strategic direction for MESH. He has worked in ESOL and refugee support since 2018 and is passionate about making English language learning accessible to everyone. John supports the team who work with partners across the region to strengthen ESOL provision, build partnerships and support projects that make a lasting difference to learners and communities.

Angela Palmer
Areas supported: Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham, Sheffield and Leeds (shared with Clare)
Angela helps develop new ESOL resources and the staff room. She has many years of experience teaching ESOL and works closely with providers across the region to improve English language learning opportunities.

Clare Jackson
Areas supported: Leeds (shared with Angela)
Clare has been part of MESH since 2013 and has played a key role in developing the Learning English websites. An experienced ESOL teacher, she supports the team with her valuable experience and knowledge.

Mary Begley
Areas supported: Calderdale and Kirklees
Mary has a background in research, linguistics and community-based projects supporting refugees and people seeking asylum. She works on MESH ESOL projects across the region such as Exploring and Belonging, a project enabling people with lived experience of forced migration to explore local areas and cultures.

Areas supported: Bradford, Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, North East Lincolnshire, North Lincolnshire, Wakefield and York
Safina helps develop new ESOL resources and promotes training across the region, and supports projects that make it easier for people to access high quality English language learning.
